Gmail, Colored Labels and AIM.

Finally, Google releases colored labels and AIM. It took over 3 years to introduce this simple features, but it finally is finished. Take a look at the the attached screen of how I organized my labels (it currently auto labels around 80% of my incoming mail… pretty solid)

*it is a 1600 x 1200 image, so the url is here:  http://schlottke.org/jacob/gmailright.png
The AIM decision had to be a tough one for Google. They don’t want to throw in the towel and admit that the Google Chat application is a piece of garbage by itself, but they must have had a tough time deciding to do this. AOL and Google do have some partnerships already slated- Google search powers AOL, for example. Where this decision is a good one (and one they had the foresight to see) is that they now can access everyone’s AIM contacts, through Gmail.

November, what a great affiliate month!

December gets all of the glory because of Christmas shopping online being easier than traveling to the mall, but Cyber Monday is my kind of shopping day.  Year in and year out, Today (well yesterday now I guess) is a phenomenal day for Internet sales.  Internet Dating and digital goods were the biggest winners, and they usually are.  The auction sites were very solid and beauty products had a very high increase in demand from a year ago.

.GOV Security?

Thinking more on the thousands of pages of porn, I got to thinking…  if it is this easy, and it does appear to be easy, how safe is your personal information that is being submitted to the site?  What is preventing these guys from taking user lists from the .gov lists and spamming them?

Government Sites with Porn on them

The Porn sites are up to no good again. I always wonder if it is a webmaster-gone-bad or a hacker, but here are a couple government sites currently being taken advantage of.
CA.GOV (10,000 pages of porn)
BURBANKIL.GOV (13,000 pages of porn)

Why do they target GOV, you ask? GOV websites are thought to (and probably does) have more power in google’s eyes than a normal .com, .net, and .org. The reason google accepts a GOV site as more credible is because not everyone has access to them… just their employees, oh, and hackers.
There are more, but I won’t release them right now.

Google’s Overzealous Badware Filter

I’ve run across a couple sites that, after some in depth checking, should not be receiving Google’s “Badware” filter warning.  This filter, which can be found here, http://www.google.com/interstitial?url=http://www.livedigitally.com/  warns people who are about to visit the website from a Google results page.

LiveDigitally.com, while detailed as a badware site, is almost certainly not.  What does that mean?  Google doesn’t send them traffic (it stops at the interstital loading page) and they don’t cache your site.  They do show similar pages.  Here is a sample of the pages google finds similar to this “Badware” site…  WordPress.org, The-Gageteer.com, SlingMedia.com.  Now *that* is bad company.. right.
